Strayhorn And Standards, The Dutch Jazz Orchestra. And here is more previously unissued material, but from the unusual standpoint of arranging. Billy Strayhorn's most important contribution to music was as composer and arranger for Duke Ellington's majestic Orchestra. These sophisticated performances were all arranged by Billy Strayhorn and are played here with love and great feeling by the Dutch Jazz Orchestra. There are 14 selections and every one of them shines. A few of my faves however were Autumn in New York, ,You Go To My Head, I'll Buy That Dream, The Man I Love, Yesterdays and Skylark. While Ellington, genius that he was, garnered all the glory, Strayhorn quietly went about contributing to that genius, thereby establishing his own. These welcome recordings add to his rich musical legacy. Challenge, 2002; Playing Time: 60:45, ****  (out of 5)
